Year in Review #42

Published on April 1, 2026

42 is the year of AI

AI Changed the World

I’ve been writing code for 20+ years
Always thought this skill would last me forever

Then AI agentic coding came
The most pivotal change in my work
Software is now cheap and fast to make

But here’s the biggest realization
I have 20+ apps, a small business built over the years
Always worried: how do I pass this on to my girls?
They probably won’t code, and I can’t expect them to

Now they don’t need to write code
Just talk to the AI, make the big decisions
My apps can keep running, issues get fixed
Legacy can continue

New Hobbies

Bought parts, bought tools, got greasy hands
From depending on uncle at the shop
To fixing it all by myself

It’s like adult LEGO
A skill I never thought I’d learn
And a satisfaction knowing I don’t need to depend on uncle

Also bought a small bitcoin mining machine
Powered by a 100W solar panel and an EcoFlow battery
It earns nothing
But harvesting the sun is something I’ve always wanted to understand
A lottery powered by sunlight

Life

We went to Australia, twice, with another coming in June
Got to make the ETA VISA worth it
AI so impactful, even planned the trip

In Sydney, I fulfilled a wish
Attended Linkin Park concert
One less regret

Got on CNA Deep Dive for the second time

Best books this year: The Three-Body Problem trilogy
Fiction that made me feel like a bug in the universe
The Trisolarans called humans bugs
Because the technology gap was just too vast
AI is starting to feel the same
