All the parties are thrashing each other, arguing non-stop, either purposely ignoring facts, making things up, or just plain ignorant.
It’s like a reality TV show.
A pretty entertaining one for 10 days. Here are some personal highlights and learnings from GE 2025.
PM Wong’s blunder on wealth tax
He said this in response to the opposition’s wealth tax proposal:
it means those living in private and landed, you better be prepared for more taxes to come… why is it only Marine Parade reacted…
That led to the most awkward silence, as he was speaking in Chua Chu Kang, with mostly HDB residents 😂
Bad enough to argue against taxing the rich, but even worse to say it to the wrong crowd.
Dr Chee: We can reduce GST back to 7%
these increases can be reversed.. this is why you need SDP MPs in the parliament
What!? Even if all SDP members are elected, they still won’t have the power to make that happen. Just another ridiculous promise.
While I understand opposition MPs have limited power — and yeah, it’s unfair when you’re not the ruling party — I just can’t stand empty promises and lies. It’s like Donald Trump using words and poetry to stir emotions and twist facts to his advantage.
Lifetime GST Voucher Scheme
I usually tune out when it comes to GST talk. I’ve lost track of all the vouchers the government hands out. So I was surprised when Shanmugam said this is permanent.
Economists say GST is a good, stable revenue source. With vouchers helping the lower-income group, most of the tax will ultimately come from the wealthy, who spend the most.
Profane vulgarity is not cool
I never use vulgarities, not even during NS. I can tolerate some, but I draw the line at people who use them all the time and bitch about every little things.
Andre Low seems to be that kind of guy — “f everything”, not humble, and constantly negative.
Ke Ling Kia is bad word
Another slur. Auntie/Dr Wong) used it, seemingly unaware it’s derogatory. I’m Hokkien myself and honestly didn’t know either. Learned something new.
Still, surprising to hear that kind of speech, from someone with a doctorate, joking about her own fellow SDP candidate.
Alexis Dang (WP)
Alexis is the female breakout star of WP. Cool, eloquent, and polished. I was already impressed by her vlog from 2022.
She used to party a lot and even dated a club owner. Probably grown a lot since then.
Anyway, back in 2011, it was Nicole Seah, also from WP.
Sun Xueling (PAP), the other goddess
Not new, as she joined 10 years ago. But this GE, I’ve seen more of her speeches and I think she’s really impressive.
Her rally at Yusof Ishak Secondary was the best. Honestly, she’s the true star of Punggol, not Mr Gan.
I almost teared up at this part (okay, the background music helped):
She’s my type.
Not those gungho ugly-shouting politicians.
