Book Review: The Little Liar

Published on May 11, 2025

Mitch Albom has done it again. The Little Liar is a powerful, haunting, and beautifully told novel that revolves around the Holocaust.

Through the tragic arc of young Nico Krispis, a boy who never told a lie until the Nazis made him an unwitting accomplice, Albom crafts a story that gave me more vivid understanding of Jewish suffering than history books ever could.

Once again, fiction is great.

Told through the voice of Truth itself, the narrative weaves the lives of four unforgettable characters: Nico, his brother Sebastian, their friend Fanni, and the Nazi officer who manipulated them. The storytelling is superb, and the reveal at the end is both heartbreaking and cathartic.

This is not just a story about war or history. It’s a parable about how lies, even innocent ones, can destroy lives, and how love and forgiveness can still mend what’s broken.
